Overall a memorable trip. Cherish was fabulous but there was often a lack of clear communication with Helen. It was disappointing to miss the 360 degree presentation at Arromanches due to late departure from Paris for arrival of non-singer participants and the unplanned tire blow out on the trailer. It would have been great to have more time at Mont St Michael. The biggest highlight was singing in the Eglise de la Madeleine. Very high praise to our bus driver, David.

The trip, from the perspective of helping to celebrate D-Day with our concerts at several Normandy locations, was very successful and worth the time, effort and money we put in to it-all of the concerts and the parade were moving experiences. The group travel experience, was not optimal. The very first day on the road, we were late leaving by almost 2 hours and were told it wasn't even for singing members of the group but last minute sign ons. The trailer with the luggage suffered a flat tire 2 hours into the trip necessitating an early meal break stop at a McDonald's. As a result of these two problems, we were too late to see the Arromanches 360 Cinema which was a big disappointment. The concerts in the rain couldn't be helped, but added to the first few days misery. There were too many instances when we got held up by the same few people showing up late to the bus from our stops although, 1 of them, was due to no communication on the fact that the bus was in a side lot to where we got left off. The communications from the tour guide were frequently incomplete or inaccurate causing further delays. The food served to the tour group at most of the places was, in a word, barely adequate to horrible (with the exception of most of the breakfasts-which were good). IF what we paid for the trip was not adequate to cover at least 2 choices in each of the dinner locations, we should have been offered the chance to pay extra to get that. One in my party, allergic to mushrooms, was offered vegetables and rice three nights in a row. Salmon (although one of my favorites) was offered in one form or another 4 nights in a row. The cemetery, Mont St. Michel, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Sainte Mere Eglise, were all moving experiences and beautiful. The bus tour of Paris was a huge disappointment. The visit to the Palace of Vesailles should have included a note that the gardens would cost us extra (not included in the general admission to the Palace-communication?). The dinner at La Mere Catherine, Montmartre was at the top of a very steep climb (after a long day) and the "pay for it yourself" elevator information was not given to us, we had to find out about it ourselves. The location of the bus for our return to the hotel on that leg of the trip was also not communicated and caused at least a small delay for persons who did not find its location easily-thankful for the WhatsApp group app to help in these circumstances. The three hotels: 1 night at Paris Marriott Charles DeGaulle Airport Hotel (very good-especially nice breakfast), Cositel Coutances (fair-with rooms cleaned daily, nice breakfasts, but shabby and the group meeting room wreaked of stale mold/mildew), B&B Batignoles-Paris (very good accommodations-cleaned daily, good breakfasts and great front desk service. Our bus driver seemed very nice and was a great driver considering he got led into some tight situations our last day in Paris (we were not told in advance that there was a foot race in the center of Paris and many streets were blocked-the Paris tour guide seemed very uninformed). All in all, I am glad I signed on for this adventure but I probably would not repeat it.

It was a great opportunity to sing with others throughout the US and some of the singing venues were amazing. Bob Huntington was an excellent conductor. Housing and breakfasts were very good. The tour part included some interesting places, but there were problems. (1) Usually there was not enough time to visit the site and to get lunch. For example, our time at Mont Saint-Michel was too short and we didn’t have time to visit the museum at Utah Beach. In contrast there was ample time at Versailles. (2) Some of the planning did not work well. Historic Programs needs to learn about other events nearby and plan accordingly such as the race in Paris that disrupted the bus tour and lunch that didn’t occur in the Latin Quarters. (3) Some of the details in planning were inadequate. Although the Montparnasse Tower provided an extraordinary view, the tour leader forgetting the tickets and having to scramble to get tickets caused confusion and anxiety. (4) Offer more variety of entrees. Salmon and ratatouille were offered for several dinners. (5) Plan the activities based upon what the ages and disabilities of the participants are. The steps up to La Mere Catherine were difficult for many senior citizens, especially those with disabilities. Yes, there was a funicular to take up those who couldn’t climb the many flights of stairs, but to get to it, there were stairs. There were other things that didn’t go as planned such as the flat tire and late arrivers that were not anybody’s fault and the tour guides did a good job of figuring out what to do in those unfortunate situations.

Trip,of a lifetime. Grateful to have been a part of the All American Chorus to commemorate and honor our veterans. Humbling and heartwarming experience.

Overall, a very good experience. There were communications gaps between the organizers and the tour guide, resulting in confusion several times. Suggestion: Chris Meeker, Cherish Walser, the tour guide and the bus driver should have met each morning (perhaps over breakfast) to review the itinerary for the day. Changes in the schedule were not being shared with the tour guide in a timely manner.
